Gahu Basic GAHU. Time (Gankogui, Atoke, Axatse, Kagan); Response (Sogo, Kidi); and Lead, which can either be a drum called the Boba or one called the Atsimevu. I'm not sure which one was used on the recording I got these samples from. The Lead drum plays the basic Gahu call plus some variations. Bardolph 2002-09-24

Guaguantuan Solo guaguanco including clave This guaguanco is written with square 1/8 notes as a base and is an exercise for one player. One hand with a stick plays the clave, tumba and conga. The other hand plays the quinto I have printed this out for myself and practice little bits at a time. Good luck ! Tim Rowley 2003-08-10

Guarachongo This is a rhythm I've been playing around with for a few years now. The Tumba comes from the Bombo part of the song "Congas de mi Cuba" by Los Papines. It is played with a combination of open and muffled strokes to mimic the Bombo. The left hand fills in on the high conga drum and the right plays open and slap strokes to fill in. It is a free style rhythm that could be used for Guaracha, Songo or Conga. For a conga rhythm, you might add another conga part (Salidor). The high and low bells are played by the timbale player. Entonces, Conga + Songo + Guaracha = Guarachongo. Seen here first on Henry Kellner's website 11/12/08. Enjoy! Robin Young 2008-12-11
Guiro Afro Cuban with 'natural feeling' - 3 shekere parts Written on 12/8 instead of 6/8 for greater control. What I am calling notes 1,2,&3 are 1,5,&7. I should call them One, And, A then Two, And, A to complete one bar Note 1 On the beat Note 2 1/4 early Note 3 1/3 early Notes 4,5,&6 repeat this The Shaker Afro and the Shekere act together as one shekere. The Axatse ignoes this time rule and in each bar counts One, And, Two, And, Three, And Each 'And' is a1/4 late This interplay is accentuated by the changing volume levels. Knock out the other instruments and hear them The conga plays between these different feels. The bell and clave also alter slightly When I was shown this Cuban rhythm I was told that one only plays a slap or a bass note with the right hand because it was traditionally played with a frame drum on the left shoulder Tim Rowley 2003-08-13
